The mission of the Palm Beach County Library System is to continually improve service to the public by: providing the public with free access to library materials in a variety of formats, helping people of all ages find information that meets their diverse personal, educational, and professional needs, encouraging children to develop a love of reading, learning, and libraries, promoting community enrichment, economic vitality, and individual achievement through reading and life-long learning. To this end, the Palm Beach County Library System provides service through the Main Library, 13 branches, and a bookmobile.
Outreach services include free Books-by-Mail, Talking Books for the Blind and Physically Disabled, and an Adult Literacy program. The Main Library’s Research Center offers specialized health-related information through the Community Health Information Service, supported by The Quantum Foundation, Inc. The Government Research Service provides assistance to staff of any government agency; the Business Reference Service offers specialized research tools to aid the local business community. Special programs for children, youth, and adults are offered in all locations, and include year-round story times for children, and book discussion groups for adults.
The library has a collection of over 1.2 million items, including books, books on tape and CD, videos, DVDs, and music CDs. Internet access is available at all branches, and most services and databases can be accessed remotely through the library’s web site, www.pbclibrary.org. |
