SEFLIN - Southeast Florida Library Information Network

SEFLIN, the Southeast Florida Library Information Network, is a multitype library cooperative (MLC). SEFLIN member libraries represent more than 250 public, academic, and school libraries serving a culturally rich population of more than 5 million Floridians. SEFLIN was established in 1984, beginning as a demonstration project funded by the State's Division of Library & Information Services with a federal LSCA grant. Today, SEFLIN is known locally, regionally, and nationally as a leader in collaboratively planning and implementing technology that links libraries and communities in the five counties of Broward, Martin, Miami-Dade, Monroe, and Palm Beach.

SEFLIN's primary service clientele are the library staff and library users of twenty-five SEFLIN members who are university, college, school, or public libraries and library systems. SEFLIN provides a wide-ranging continuing education and training program which served almost 3,000 library staff in FY2000/2001. SEFLIN supports ground delivery and interlibrary loan services that provide access to member library collections which total more than 11.6 million book volumes.

SEFLIN has a strong organizational structure that supports the linking of libraries and communities. The SEFLIN Board of Directors exercises all corporate powers and provides extraordinary expertise to and leadership of SEFLIN. Financially secure, approximately 50% of SEFLIN's total budget is provided through local funds with grants being used to support the critical areas of research, development, and demonstration projects that support the joint use of technology, continuing education and training of library staff, and resource sharing among all types of libraries.
