The Broward County Library mission is to provide convenient access to a full range of innovative and cost-effective services that satisfy the changing needs of the people of Broward County for information, education and recreation. Broward County Libraries Division consists of a flagship Main library, five regional libraries, 27 branch libraries, three reading centers, four bookmobiles and computer information kiosks at two shopping malls. The Library, Research, and Information Technology Center for the students, faculty and staff of Nova Southeastern University, and the residents of Broward County, is a joint-use facility created through efforts by NSU and the Broward County Board of County Commissioners. The BIG library card is free to all county residents and may be obtained at any Broward County Library branch and Traveling Libraries (Bookmobiles). The library card is the key to borrow and renew library materials, obtain interlibrary loans, place holds, check your library account and make copies and print items from the library catalog. Broward County Library offers a variety of exhibits, educational displays and cultural and educational programs for children, teens and adults. Special services include: a nationally-recognized literacy program, access services for people with disabilities, including Talking Book Library and Books-by-Mail, community technology centers with computers for public use and computer training classes, a small business resource center geared toward minority and small businesses, FDLRS Media Center with information for parents and teachers of children with disabilities, Bienes Center for the Literary Arts which houses and preserves rare books and special collections, and the Patent and Trademark Depository Library, one of only 81 designated locations nationwide. Visitors to the web site (www.broward.org/library) can peruse library publications, including Bookings, the monthly program guide and click on the calendar of events for an easy and flexible way to access program information by branch, date and category. The free, Online Book Club, provided through Chapter-A-Day, provides a chapter from either a fiction or non-fiction book each weekday. Patrons can sign-on by clicking the Online Book Club logo. |
